Training manual for Spanish civil engineers in the second half of the 20th century. It is very useful learn about the construction methods and criteria applied at the time. The successive editions (1943, 1949, 1951, 1960 and 1967) and Néstor Jacob’s French translation, with a preface by Marius Duriez (Traité des routes, 1954), are the best evidence of its widespread use for many years.

A copy of the first edition, found in the library of the Polytechnic University of Madrid’s School of Civil Engineering, has been digitised.

As supplementary documentation, we are enclosing an article that José Luis Escario published in 1953 in the extraordinary issue of Revista de Obras Públicas that celebrated its centennial. It is entitled ‹‹Las carreteras en España››, and contains more notes about the historic evolution of the road network found at the beginning of Caminos (1943).
